Property Partners Recruitment has been in business for 12 months, and it’s a cliché but – time has flown by. From day one, taking the step out on our own has felt like the right decision and a year on I can honestly say we haven’t looked back.

Ali and I have been fortunate to work with each other for almost 8 years, so when we took the plunge and started the business, we already knew each other’s strengths and flaw. It has been a great decision; working independently in recruitment can be pretty lonely, and I’m so pleased that we’ve had each other to celebrate the highs and commiserate the lows. I couldn’t have wished for a better business partner. Of course, we’ve had the odd disagreement, but normally Ali is quick to apologise when she realises I was right ?

We both have young families and a key factor in our decision was the opportunity to work far more flexibly to allow us more time to spend with our children. For me, this has been our greatest achievement so far. Slowly getting my golf handicap down comes a close second! But Seriously; having more time with my family is fantastic and I have to thank my wife for being so supportive throughout.

So what have I learnt? Plenty… the art of recruitment doesn’t really change, but being able to do things your own way is definitely a nice feeling. The biggest lesson I’ve learnt and embraced is to never be afraid to ask questions and seek out advice from peers, both in recruitment and other professions.

I’m pleased to say we’ve been given a lot of good advice which has helped us to make the business a success so quickly. Of course in life you need to make your own mistakes and learn from them, but being humble and not being afraid to ask for advice is something I value highly. I particularly enjoy being able to pass our advice/experiences on to others who are in the early stages of their business ventures.

All in all, it has been a great 12 months and I have to finish with a big thank you to all of our clients and candidates (new and old) who have worked with us along the way – your support has been invaluable and we look forward to working with you all moving forward.
