Building Surveyor (Property officer)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Building Surveyor (Property Officer) to join the United Reformed Church (Wessex) Trust, supporting churches across the Wessex region with the management, maintenance and development of their property portfolio.

This is a unique and rewarding role combining building surveying, property advisory and stakeholder management responsibilities. Working closely with local churches, trustees and professional consultants, you’ll provide expert guidance on building maintenance, refurbishment and development projects, helping to protect and enhance a diverse portfolio of church buildings, many of which have significant heritage value.

The role offers a mix of office, home and site-based working, with approximately two days per week in the Southampton office and the remainder spent visiting sites or working remotely.

Role and Responsibilities of the Building Surveyor (Property Officer):

  • Providing building and property advice to churches across the Wessex region
  • Supporting maintenance, refurbishment and building improvement projects
  • Advising on building fabric repairs and planned maintenance programmes
  • Acting as the key liaison for listed church buildings and heritage projects
  • Supporting funding and grant applications for building works
  • Overseeing building projects and coordinating external consultants and contractors
  • Reviewing specifications, costs and project documentation
  • Monitoring project budgets and maintaining cost records
  • Preparing reports for trustees and senior stakeholders
  • Attending site visits, committee meetings and stakeholder forums across the region

Skills & Experience:

  • Building Surveying, Construction or Property-related degree or equivalent qualification
  • Experience specifying and managing maintenance and repair projects
  • Strong understanding of building construction and relevant regulations
  • Experience with heritage or listed buildings would be advantageous
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational and project coordination abilities
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the Wessex region

Salary & Benefits:
