We’re delighted to be working exclusively in partnership with Portsmouth City Council to recruit a Principal Building Surveyor into their Capital Projects team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Chartered Building Surveyor, either recently qualified or more experienced, to lead a team delivering refurbishment, planned maintenance, compliance and building safety projects across one of the South Coast’s most diverse public sector property portfolios.

Working within the Housing, Neighbourhoods and Building Services team you’ll work on diverse housing projects, ranging from smaller maintenance schemes through to large-scale projects, including retrofit and Net Zero initiatives, with responsibility for project management, contract administration and technical delivery.

Role and Responsibilities of the Principal Building Surveyor:

  • Leading a team of Building Surveyors delivering a varied programme of capital works
  • Managing refurbishment, planned maintenance, building safety works, and retrofit works to achieve Net Zero Carbon
  • Delivering projects from feasibility through to completion
  • Acting as Contract Administrator under JCT contracts
  • Managing project budgets, programmes and resources
  • Appointing and coordinating consultants and contractors
  • Providing professional Building Surveying advice across a diverse property portfolio
  • Preparing specifications, reports and technical recommendations
  • Supporting the professional development of junior surveyors, including APC candidates

Skills & Experience:

  • MRICS qualified Building Surveyor
  • Proven experience delivering professional Building Surveying services
  • Strong project management and contract administration experience
  • Good knowledge of JCT contracts, Building Regulations and construction legislation
  • Experience managing refurbishment and maintenance projects
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Strong commercial awareness and budget management experience
  • AutoCAD and Microsoft Office experience
  • Full UK driving licence or willingness to obtain one

Salary & Benefits:
