Operations Surveyor

I am pleased to be partnering with The Royal Household to recruit an Operations Surveyor for the Windsor Estate on a one-year, fixed term contract. The Windsor Estate is comprised of the upper, middle, and lower wards of Windsor Castle, the Royal Mews, Frogmore House, various residential and commercial buildings in Home Park, Hampton Court Mews and Hampton Court Paddocks, all of which are maintained by the Windsor Castle Property Team. The team prides itself on the achievement of exceptional standards and strives to be a centre of excellence providing advice on the upkeep of historical buildings.

The Royal Household are now seeking an experienced Operations Surveyor to be a key member of the team responsible for the delivery of operational activities across the Windsor Castle Estate, including planned maintenance, specialist term contracts, statutory compliance, reactive maintenance, and preparations for functions, and to have responsibility for service delivery, project and programme management and maintaining stakeholder relationships across the Windsor Castle Estate.

Role and responsibilities of the Operations Surveyor:

  • Responsible for the conservation, repair, and maintenance of the building fabric.
  • End-to-end management of a range of works, including planning; preparation of specifications, schedules of work, sketch plans and simple working drawing; management of the tender process; appointment of contractors; supervision through to completion and settlement of final accounts.
  • Responsibility for tender and management of specialist term contracts.
  • Assist with the preparations for events and functions (such as State or official functions, the opening of Windsor Castle, Royal Windsor Horse Show, Garter Day and Ascot week).
  • Oversee works to ensure that they are completed on time, within budget and to the required specification and quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory duties and legislative requirements are met.
  • Active management of all allocated Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) jobs.
  • Monitor the performance of contractors and suppliers.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships.
  • 37.5 hour working week but flexible approach to working hours, particularly when the Court is in residence or when major events or functions are held.
  • Weekend and out-of-hours on-call duties required for which there is a team rota. Frequency of on-call duties is 1 in every 8-weeks.

Skills & experience of the Operations Surveyor:

  • Educated to degree level. MRICS desirable but not essential
  • Experienced ideally within an environment of occupied spaces.
  • Experience of managing and maintaining historic / listed buildings would be a definite advantage.
  • Diplomatic and collaborative approach, natural interpersonal skills and influence at all levels
  • Good project management skills. Able to manage a varied portfolio of work.
  • IT literate with a good working knowledge of MS Office and CAD.
  • CAFM/property helpdesk experience desirable but not essential.
  • Driving Licence with no penalties attached.

Salary and benefits:

  • £45,000 to £50,000 subject to qualifications and experience.
  • Additional payment for weekend and out-of-ours on call duties.
